How to Make Your Daily Commute Better

Commuting to work is something that no one enjoys. It can take hours out of your day when you would much rather be doing something else, and can ruin your mood before you even get into work.

Finding value in your commute is the only way you will be able to enjoy it. Don’t just tolerate hours in traffic, follow these simple suggestions to make your commute more worthwhile:

1. Save Money

An offhand way to make your daily commute better is to make your overall life better. Saving money on the car itself by buying used cars can mean that you have money to spend on life’s pleasures. If you have a great after-work life, going to work will be better. You need to have a balanced life between work and pleasure if you want to be able to live either life well.

2. Carpool

Carpooling is great for many reasons. First, you can lower the cost of gas by splitting it between those you carpool with. Second, you can socialise on your way to work with, typically, your co-workers. Thirdly, you can make friends. Having people you can connect and talk to (and even complain to) is a great way to improve your work life and your daily commute.

3. Make a Playlist

Listening to the radio is fine, but if you are annoyed with how often songs repeat, with the adverts, or even with the radio hosts themselves, it’s time to put some time in and make a playlist just for you. Choose songs that will make you happy and find your daily commute improve.

4. Listen to Audiobooks

If you love stories, but don’t have time to read, audiobooks are a great solution. Put on an audiobook while you are driving and, instead of thinking about the traffic, get pulled into the story that’s being spoken. You can get through a surprising number of audiobooks on your day-to-day commute. You’ll probably find that you get through more audiobooks than you’ve ever read!

5. Try to Go at Off-Peak Times

If possible, try to go at times when there is the least amount of traffic. Wake up earlier to go to work, stay behind in the city until traffic has thinned, and then return home. Traffic is the worst part of any commute, so finding a way to go at off-peak times, or finding an unlikely route home will make your commute much better.

No one likes commuting, and yet two-hour long commutes are the daily life for millions. It takes time away from you, and puts you in a stressful, aggravating situation. Traffic is the necessaryevil that comes with any commute. Try implementing these simple suggestions to make your commute not only go by faster, but go by more productively. Don’t waste time listening to the same songs when you are stuck in traffic, find a way to make your commute more pleasant so you can be ready for the work day ahead.
