Your Total Guide To eating and drinking

Reading Restaurants; You’ve Never Had It So Good!

It seems these days that there are more places to eat than ever before in and around Reading – and those of us living and working in the town are well used to the huge range on offer. On any given night, you can pick a restaurant from pretty much any corner of the globe and get tucked in.

This, however, may not be quite the case for the rest of the country. When people visit Reading on business or for pleasure, or to see family and friends, they probably won’t be thinking that they’re en route to a culinary paradise, it’s probably fair to say. But, for residents of the locale, we already know that we are and sometimes have to try to persuade visitors to see the town as we do. But it’s not easy over the course of a weekend when there are usually only one or two chances to eat out.

Eat out, but stay in

Of course, if you’ve got friends with kids coming to visit, a meal out in a restaurant may not be the way you want to go. If the kids are more interested in playing than eating - and which kid isn’t? - maybe it’s better to take advantage of all the restaurants that will now deliver to your door.

With Deliveroo, for example, there are now no less than 63 different restaurants delivering to homes in and around central Reading. And on Deliveroo customers review everything about the service in your local area and beyond – including, of course, what was great (or maybe even not so great…) about the food wares on offer in the town.

In other words, there is most definitely something to cater for all tastes that can be brought to the door within minutes via this delivery service – or other similar delivery services (or simply directly from the restaurants) – and that helps showcase the town’s cafes and restaurants to good effect.

Simply browsing the list of options available on this site is impressive enough and of course, the beauty of this kind of system is that everyone in the house can eat in a different part of their world whilst under one roof, simultaneously. This makes for great parties and it’s good fun to sample foods from here and there that you wouldn’t usually put together.

Go out to eat out

But for most of us - and particularly when we have visitors – it’s nice to go out. In Reading, we have a huge number of restaurants to choose from, even including a selection of Michelin-starred restaurants for the real food aficionados. But for those not feeling quite flush enough to pay Michelin-starred prices, but who are still keen to promote the sheer width and depth of eateries in the town; where do we begin?

Of course, you’re likely to have your favourite restaurant or two that you return to again and again. Why not share its delights with your visitors? And it also depends on who you’ve got visiting. Maybe they’d enjoy the novelty experience of conveyor-belt dining at Yo! Sushi, or perhaps they’d prefer somewhere with white tablecloths and fine china. If you want to try somewhere totally new, there are plenty of restaurant listings and blogs around online with which to impress your visiting friends and kinfolk.

Reading today is truly a party-cum-eatery town par excellence. It was Harold McMillan who famously coined the phrase; "You've never had it so good" when referring to the living standards of British people 60 years ago - and the same could easily be said about eating out in our fair town today!
