So, how do they go about picking the colour of the year? It's not just a case of picking any old colour. Each year, the colour experts at the Institute research and analyse many different areas such as design, film, food, fashion, art, as well as material and technology. It’s a thoughtful and meticulous process because the decision influences so many things like product development, design, and purchasing decisions across multiple industries.
The Pantone Colour Institute has been hailed as “the world’s most comprehensive destination to gain intelligence, insight, and implications on the science and emotions of colour.”
Ultra Violet is a “Provocative and thoughtful purple shade that embodies individuality and spirituality,” says Leatrice Eiseman, Executive Director of the Pantone Colour Institute. Creative industries around the globe are responding enthusiastically to Ultra Violet and the impact it will have on their work. There are many industries that analysing trends and follow the direction of design.

Why is purple special?
Purple has many positive connotations. Colour Psychology explains how the rich shade “combines the stability of blue and the energy of red. It symbolizes power, nobility, luxury, and ambition. It conveys wisdom, dignity, independence, creativity, mystery, and magic.”
It's said that this radiant colour has an undeniable charm. It is interesting, eye-catching and vibrant. Due to Purple’s gender neutrality, it is also attractive to everyone.
